Displaying A Task Record's Child Records

Every Task record is capable of being linked to an unlimited number of Subtask, Work Session, Note, and Data File Link (linked computer files) records.

The Task record shown in this image is linked to 35 Subtasks, 203 Work Sessions, 205 Notes, and 505 computer files.

The database records linked to a Task record are referred to as its "child records", and sometimes as its "owned" records.

The Task's Child Records Are Displayed In "Index" Type Windows

When you click a hyperlink such as the Display Data Link Files hyperlink, you'll see an "Index" type window displayed, and inside that window will be a list of all of the child records, of that type, that belong to the task.

Index Type Windows Have A Search Panel That Lets You Easily Find Records In The Window

Every 'index' type window, like the one shown in this image has a Search panel that you use a keyword search with to find specific records in the currently displayed list.

For example, the search shown in the image below, will search for any files, created on a Tuesday in November of any year, and display them.

A keyword search is being used to find a file.

Loading And Displaying Linked Computer Files, Or Database Records

Because the Task's Data Files Index window (this image) works with linked computer files, when you double click on any record entry in the list, that entry's linked computer file is going to get loaded and displayed.

Note: If this window was any of the 'index' windows used to display a task's subtasks, work sessions, or note records instead, then double clicking on a record entry in the window would have opened that record in a new 'editing' window.

The software that loads and displays it will be the software that your computer uses to work with that kind of file.

In the image below, the Windows Photo Viewer was the software that loaded and displayed the linked image file.
