Creating Work Sessions For A Task
Work Session records represent a period of time when work will be done, or was done on some
particular Task/Subtask record.
The easiest way to create a Work Session record is to click on the New Work Session hyperlink in any
window
that displays it.
After you click that link the new Work Session record will be created and displayed to you in a new
window,
the Work Session window.
When you see the record, it will have the same description as its parent task, change the description
if you
need to.
Using The Task Window To Create Work Session Records
The Task Window makes it very easy to create Work Session records in multiple ways.
You can click on the New Work Session hyperlink on the left hand side of the window to create them.
Or, you can type the Work Session's description into the Planning panel, and then
click on any of the 3 hyperlinks that create Work Session records at the bottom of the panel.
Using The New Work Session Hyperlink To Create Work Session Records
This technique works for any window that displays the New Work Session hyperlink and that
knows
exactly which Task record to link the
new Work Session record to.
When you click on the New Work Session hyperlink, a new Work Session record is created, and linked to
the
Task record (and all of its
parent task records) that the window is working with.
Then that new Work Session record is displayed in the Work Session Window so you can edit
it.
By default, it will have the same description as its parent task. Often, this is exactly the
description you want it to have, but if it's
not, just replace it.
If you click the Display Task hyperlink in this window, a new Task Window will be opened and it will
be
displaying this record's parent Task
record in it.
Using The Planning Field To Create Multiple Work Session Records
You can use the Planning field to create multiple Work Session records for the window's
Task record.
All you need to do is type the descriptions for each Work Session into the field.
Press the Enter key on your keyboard to separate one description from the next.
Turn All Descriptions Into Work Session Records At Once
If you want to turn all of the descriptions in the Planning field into Work Session records at once,
just click on the Turn All Content Into Work Sessions
hyperlink.
One Work Session record will be created for each description paragraph in the Planning field.
These Work Session records won't be displayed though, but they will be linked to the task record and
all
of its parent records.
Use The Planning Field To Create Records One At A Time
To turn the descriptions in the Planning field into Work Session records, one at a time, and to
decide if you want the new Work Session record to be displayed at the same time, do the following:
Start by selecting the content in the Planning field first. The selected content becomes the
record's description.
Now click either the Create Work Session - Open It, or Create Work Session - Don't Open It
hyperlink.
You'll often find that right after you've created a new Task record, you'll also want to start creating
its initial set of Work Session
records too, and that's when the Planning field is going to be very helpful to you.
Displaying The Work Session Records That Belong To A Task
If you click on either the Display Work Sessions, or Display Unfinished Work Sessions hyperlinks, on
the left side of the Task Window.
You'll see a new window, the Task's Work Sessions Index Window pop up,
and it will be displaying the Task's Work Sessions.
This image shows the Task's Work Sessions Index Window that's displayed when the Display Unfinished
Work Sessions hyperlink was clicked
on in the Task Window.
If you want to see all of the Task's work sessions, just click the Reset
hyperlink in the Search panel.
