Creating Work Sessions For A Task

Work Session records represent a period of time when work will be done, or was done on some particular Task/Subtask record.

The easiest way to create a Work Session record is to click on the New Work Session hyperlink in any window that displays it.

After you click that link the new Work Session record will be created and displayed to you in a new window, the Work Session window.

When you see the record, it will have the same description as its parent task, change the description if you need to.

Using The Task Window To Create Work Session Records

The Task Window makes it very easy to create Work Session records in multiple ways.

You can click on the New Work Session hyperlink on the left hand side of the window to create them.

Or, you can type the Work Session's description into the Planning panel, and then click on any of the 3 hyperlinks that create Work Session records at the bottom of the panel.

Using The New Work Session Hyperlink To Create Work Session Records

This technique works for any window that displays the New Work Session hyperlink and that knows exactly which Task record to link the new Work Session record to.

When you click on the New Work Session hyperlink, a new Work Session record is created, and linked to the Task record (and all of its parent task records) that the window is working with.

Click the New Work Session hyperlink to create a Work Session record for the Task.

Then that new Work Session record is displayed in the Work Session Window so you can edit it.

By default, it will have the same description as its parent task. Often, this is exactly the description you want it to have, but if it's not, just replace it.

If you click the Display Task hyperlink in this window, a new Task Window will be opened and it will be displaying this record's parent Task record in it.

The new Work Session record is displayed in a Work Session window.

Using The Planning Field To Create Multiple Work Session Records

You can use the Planning field to create multiple Work Session records for the window's Task record.

All you need to do is type the descriptions for each Work Session into the field.

Press the Enter key on your keyboard to separate one description from the next.

Turn All Descriptions Into Work Session Records At Once

If you want to turn all of the descriptions in the Planning field into Work Session records at once, just click on the Turn All Content Into Work Sessions hyperlink.

One Work Session record will be created for each description paragraph in the Planning field.

These Work Session records won't be displayed though, but they will be linked to the task record and all of its parent records.

                        work session records from all the paragraphs in the Planning field.

Use The Planning Field To Create Records One At A Time

To turn the descriptions in the Planning field into Work Session records, one at a time, and to decide if you want the new Work Session record to be displayed at the same time, do the following:

Start by selecting the content in the Planning field first. The selected content becomes the record's description.

Now click either the Create Work Session - Open It, or Create Work Session - Don't Open It hyperlink.

Create record's one at a time using the Planning field.

You'll often find that right after you've created a new Task record, you'll also want to start creating its initial set of Work Session records too, and that's when the Planning field is going to be very helpful to you.

Displaying The Work Session Records That Belong To A Task

If you click on either the Display Work Sessions, or Display Unfinished Work Sessions hyperlinks, on the left side of the Task Window.

Create record's one at a time using the Planning field.

You'll see a new window, the Task's Work Sessions Index Window pop up, and it will be displaying the Task's Work Sessions.

If you want to see all of the Task's work sessions, just click the Reset hyperlink in the Search panel.
